I can't believe it's 11 already. Stephen and I were talking about how time just disappears these days... and then when we realized we'd been at dinner for 1.5 hours. It really didn't feel like it was that long. I guess people weren't kidding when they said time speeds up as you get older.
I'm trying to be smart and ice my leg after kickball yesterday (WAKA - Dogtown). One of the guys on the other team said "I like Yahoo better" while we saying "good game" to each other. I mean, come on!
I was smart earlier and didn't go to yoga class. It was sad, I really like yoga... and my yoga mat.. and my yoga pants.. and the part at the end where we get to lie on the floor. No really, it's great.
Anyway, lots of things are going on. Summer interns start next week and the week after so my office is having a bunch of fun events. People wise there are a couple of new developments and drama (of course). I haven't seen Mike in two weeks (he's in Paris) but it really doesn't feel that way.
There's a lot on my mind right now yet I'm really happy and calm.. and cold because of the ice pack ;) |

Apparently, I'm pretty nerdy/geeky/dorky.. at least according to the quiz below. Before you all say duh, I was actually a bit shocked. Must be all that Google rubbing off on me ;)

It's been a while. I'll do a flash update.
I'm currently - Working at Google Santa Monica - Loving work and the people at my office - Recovering from an office Go-Karting field trip which was super awesome - Undercover, shhh - Enjoying today's gorgeous weather - Spending my first full weekend at my apartment since I moved in 3 months ago. Wow, I've never spent Friday AND Saturday night here... how weird. - Still waiting for Tivo to change my life - Really excited that I'm actually learning how to play pool - Surprised that I slept for 14 hours straight last night! - Going up to SF on the 31st for the sister's HS graduation
That sums up the last.. 3 months haha. Oh well. I tried. |
|
Things I've learned from my first month at Google Santa Monica
- Kicking a big exercise ball around the office is considered normal - My HR person is a member of WAKA (World Adult Kickball Association) - I'm allowed to have playdates - My building is small enough to get to know people in other departments - There are two couches, 3 trampoline like chairs, a giant beanbag, an old fashioned candy machine and a massage chair directly around the corner from my cubicle not to mention the kitchen/bar/snack area if you continue in that direction - I now appreciate the hours of 11-3 because we have the most fun EVER - People look at me funny when I mention Outlook - Sometimes you just have to play ping-pong/foosball/pacman/scooter tag... right? - GoogleTalking is encouraged - We are all baristas in training - I personally know my IT/HR people and they rock - Playing with toys at your desk just increases creativity - There are people here who have my major! - The mini circle rugs double as security devices to keep people from getting to the snacks, right Stephen? - Sunset shots on the deck/roof is brilliant - There's a surf board in my lobby (hang 10^100 bro!)
And last but not least, - I really like it here :) |

| » Jo is so right about AOL horoscopes |
Capricorn (Dec. 22 - Jan. 19) The lunar dynamics could bring storms of feelings into your life now, but this may be exactly what you most need. Your emotional reactions are intense today as they flush the stagnant waters out of your life. Throughout the day, you become more determined to stir up issues that can bring change. Meanwhile, others are depending on you in the workplace, and this motivates you to take on even more responsibility.
Dear whomever writes AOL horoscopes, this one is SO yesterday!

Following my sister's horoscope example:
Capricorn (Dec. 22 - Jan. 19) If you cannot be forthcoming with what you want from others now, they may assume the wrong thing. In other words, what you don't say today can be as significant as what you do. Go beyond your comfort zone and speak your piece. It's better if your feelings, however irrational, are out in the open.
Intereeeeesting...

So apparently I indirectly started a Anastacia - Sick and Tired trend last night. It's an awesome song ;)
"A little late for all the things you didn’t say I’m not sad for you But I’m sad for all the time I had to waste Cause I learned the truth Your heart is in a place I no longer wanna be I knew there’d come a day I´d set you free cause…
I’m sick and tired Of always being sick and tired"
Yeah, we were line dancing to that this morning. Yeeeeeeehaw :)

It is so great to be able to look back on 4 years of college and know that I have accomplished exactly if not more than I wanted. I cannot explain the thrill of realizing that in two weeks I will be an official scientist (BS Cognitive Science). It's amazing for me to think back to what I have been a part of at CMU, how lucky I am to have contributed to research ranging from robotics to cognitive psychology. If someone had mentioned to a 10 year old me that this was my future, my excitement would have been unparalleled.
Next up: a year off and than graduate school.. I'm thinking Caitlin Lovett, PhD ;)

| » Just Another Day |
Once again I have failed to update this thing in ages. It's already April. I'm graduating in 2(3?) weeks. I'm in shock, I'm in denial. 4 years of college are about to end. 4 years. It doesnt feel that long. In fact, it feels like I just graduated from high school. I'm leaving with a BS in Cognitive Science and minor in Computer Science. I'd planned on this major/minor combination since freshman year but it's still crazy to think that I've actually accomplished it. Well.. almost. Another 2 weeks to go.
I feel really old and young at the same time. My sister is starting the college process which is just weird and unbelievable. That makes me feel sooo old. Not that being 22 in itself doesnt make me feel old but just thinking about her being in college is crazy. At the same time, I still almost feel like a teenager. I don't feel like I look like I'm in my 20s. In fact, I can't believe that this is it for my body for the rest of my life. A part of me thinks I should still be growing. It's odd how that works.
I would update on my life in general but right now it's just too complicated and wordy. I'll just say that 4 of my close friends are going to be in California with me (2 in SF, 2 in LA) and that makes me really happy. It's funny to think back to freshman year and whether I would have expected any of this and although I would like to say no.. I think that a part of me almost knew.
I'll be back in SF on the 24th. For some of you that means I'll get to see you soon, for others I miss you so much but I'll see you in a few months.
You know you have a cool sister when even your friends understand her inner attic.
Love you JoJo ;)

Today was the last day of Mobile Robot Programming! Mobile Robot was this huge robotics course I took this semester. We're talking 12+ hours a week of work. It was an awesome class and I'm so happy I took it and so I proud I did really well. I now understand, and yes you can all laugh at me for this that I enjoy programming.. alot. Anyway, we had the last of the final competitions today. Each team used two robots to race through a maze and retrieve as many "golds" for points as possible. The robots communicated back forth via wireless. We took pictures so you can enjoy these great robots :) Enjoy!
